Some more Buttonwillow pics here. Major thanks to John for the driving tips and doing the tech inspection!

The guy in the Miata is REALLY fast.

When your tires get hot enough to pick up other tire bits and end up looking like this, it's a sign of getting faster.

My "graceful resting driver" photo, lol.

Agreed!

I feel sort of bad for whoever is behind me on the freeway. My tires are still shedding those rubber bits.

How did you get your start in rallycross? I've been wanting to try it for a long while, but not too sure how to go about it. There's a rally school in Riverside, but I'm not sure if it's any good?

One of my many engine-related life goals it to compete in amateur stage rally for a season. Heck, I'd be happy with a single event as long as I come back with all four limbs and wheels attached, lol.

Thanks! It's pretty cool being the resident girl at various events and hangouts, but there are several times when I wish there were more females around. The testosterone levels get old after a while, lol.

I run with the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) who has a great racing program for new drivers. A typical weekend event's expenses are along the lines of:

$380-ish for 2-day event registration. This includes 8 20-minute sessions with a private instructor who is experienced in your vehicle platform. Cut the prices and sessions in half for 1-day events.

$50 for a one-night motel stay or $100 for a one-night hotel stay. Being a finicky person and slightly paranoid of bed bugs, I try to stay at business class hotels whenever possible.

$100 for gas. This usually includes getting to and from the track as well as topping off before the day's events.

$40 for food and non-alcoholic drinks. I usually subsist on a combination of McD's breakfast, whatever burger at the track, Gatorade/water/Diet Coke, and various dry snacks.

For a given weekend, I usually spend about $600. The classes are typically once per month during the racing season.

Hehe, and every time I'm out on the track, at some event, or talking with other driving/performance enthusiasts, I mention John. We have an overall build plan that coincides with my driving ability. The guy definitely knows his stuff.

I like that... scale as you, as a driver, get faster and better. Unlike other people who do these massive builds and don't actually take the time to be a faster driver.
