I recently had the pleasure of working with Tanabe-USA by allowing them use of my 2011 STi sedan for 3 days during their summer R&D session. As you can imagine I was a bit apprehensive to leave them my brand new STi but my suspicions were put to rest when I arrived to a warm greeting by a few of the Tanabe-USA guys. They explained to me they would be test fitting a set of Sustec Pro S-OC coilovers with PRO210 springs (review on a different thread (http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-suspension-handling-stiffening/224062-tanabe-sustec-pro-s-oc-coilover-review-2011-sti-sedan.html)), Concept G exhaust and Medalion Touring exhaust systems. They also planned to make 3 dyno runs; Stock exhaust, Concept G exhaust, and Medalion Touring exhaust system to establish true power gain measurements for each system with a baseline for stock. (All dyno numbers have not been released as of now, I will post an update upon information release.)
A few days passed and when I arrived to pick up the car I was blown away, not only did they leave on the Medalion Touring exhaust system but they also left on the complete Sustec Pro S-OC coilover suspension too. The tone of the Medalion Touring exhaust system put an ear-to-ear grin on my face as soon as I started it in the Tanabe-USA parking lot, ahhh, finally I have the subie rumble. The exhaust is perfect on the noise scale, loud enough but not wake-up the neighborhood status. Deep base at idle, loud in low gears, but you can still talk on the phone in 5th/6th gear. The mufflers are polished to a mirror finish highlighting the robotic tig welds throughout and the larger than OE quad tip design fills the large exhaust openings in the bumper. Fabricated from SUS304 stainless steel at the JISQ9001 certified Tanabe factory in Shiga, Japan.
Overall I couldn’t be more excited with Tanabe-USA’s professionalism, respect, and of course an insane suspension and cat-back exhaust system. I had a great experience with Tanabe-USA and now love driving my 2011 STi even more that it’s equipped with a Tanabe Medalion Touring exhaust system and a set of Sustec Pro S-OC coilovers.
